Featured Artists
Stacey Walyuchow is a visual artist, manager of opportunities at Loft 112, and the creator of FosterMAK.com, an online gallery representing Calgary artists. Her style and medium emerged from a fairly dark time in her life dealing with depression and anxiety, where art became her therapy and a way to express her feelings and illustrate her experiences. She began to develop this style of hand painting fragile, imperfect pieces of paper, and then attaching those pieces to sturdy canvas or wood panel. She believes this to be a direct illustration of the exceptional durability of a human’s ability to persevere and fight through. She teaches hand painted collage workshops, and in 2018 published The Significance of Home—a chapbook of her art paired with poems by Erin Vance.
Helen Hajnoczky is a poet and artist from Calgary. She is the author of the books Magyarázni (Coach House, 2016) and Poets and Killers: A Life in Advertising. Helen shares her artwork, including collaborations with her late father Steve Hajnoczky, on Instagram @ateacozyisasometimes. She blogs about her writing, art, and the creative process at ateacozyisasometimes.com/blog
Her Lady and the Lathe series brings together disparate images of industrial equipment, flowers, and romanticized depictions of women, to create surreal and resplendent gardens for the viewer to wander.
Stephanie Jager and Britta Kokemor (Jager & Kokemor), are a female photography duo based in Calgary, AB. Their work extends far beyond simply taking a picture. They collaboratively create photographs with impact, bringing them from concept to reality.
With limitless creativity, adventurous spirits and plenty of heart, they foster genuine, meaningful connections with their subjects. Thoughtful interaction is what sets them apart. This allows their subjects to feel free in front of their camera.
Jager & Kokemor seek to leave the world a better place than they found it. They are driven by a desire to create work that not only satisfies their desire to be creative, but has a lasting impact, provokes thought, and drives real change.
Jager & Kokemor recently traveled to Nepal and had the opportunity to give back with their creative skills. The trip was inspired by the desire to create visual assets for a social business; providing images to use for marketing and in turn provide employment alternatives and housing for at-risk women and families. As women in business this is something they are very passionate about both locally and globally.
